Thank you Auntie Joyce!

Auntie Joyce sent Kieran an early 6 month gift the other day... an adorable baby- blue fleece jacket with his initals embroidered on the front! We love the pointy tasseled hat too! Sooo cute! Can't wait for some crisp fall weather to try it out! Thank you to Auntie Joyce!

Happy 23 week birthday! (and naked fun!)

Kieran is 23 weeks old today and as usual I will have to say that he has changed so much! He is sitting up better and better every day which makes play time all that much more fun for Kieran and us! He is getting a little better at eating his cereal although he still isn't thrilled about it. Daycare is going well and Kieran is still doing a good job eating and sleeping for Sheila- which makes everyone happy!
In these pictures, Kieran is in his favorite outfit... his birthday suit! I think he is happiest whilst naked! I used to think he didn't roll over much because his cloth diaper was restrictive due to its bulk, but now that I see he doesn't do it much while he is naked either I have decided he just doesn't care much for the sensation!

1st "solid" meal

Kieran "enjoyed" his first very-semi-solid meal this week. We went ahead and gave him a little bit of rice cereal. Honestly, I don't think he was sure what to make of it and more of it went out rather than in... but all in all it was a good first try ;) Guess we will just have to keep at it and hope he gets the hang of it and starts to enjoy it at some point!

More fun with hats

Kieran and mommy played dress up today with a hat Grandma Sandy brought over yesterday. We think Rick used it for a costume. Anyway- it made for some very cute pictures!

Shopping with mommy and grandma

Kieran went to the Lake of the Ozarks to shop with mommy and grandma Jo today. He was a real champ- mellow as can be for all the shopping and a girlie lunch at the Yankee Tea Peddler. Although he was a bit fussy on the way home- but who can blame him after all that excitement! These are pics from lunch when Kieran got to try on a number of cute hats- what a sweetie!
PS Yes- mommy got her hair cut... auntie Shannon did a great job!

22 weeks and five months old!

Kieran is 22 weeks as of yesterday and 5 months as of Wednesday! As usual I will start this post by saying that he has changed so much! In fact and to my dismay, he seems to be older every time I pick him up from daycare. I know it's "only" 8 hours but he seems just a little bit more grown when 4:30 rolls around everyday... slow down baby boy!
Let's see... what's going on...? he is sitting up better and better every day and seems to really be enjoying his new perspective on life. He is drooling more- if that's possible- surly that first tooth is just around the corner. Kieran is still doing well at daycare with Sheila. I am constantly amazed that she manages to get him to sleep without his mommy's lap and other favorite body parts ;) But somehow Sheila gets him down twice a day and is always rested and happy when it's time for me to pick him up. This week we set up our Parents As Teachers schedule for the school year. It will be great to see Ala again and I am excited for her to see how much Kieran has grown over the past three months. We haven't started cereal just yet but in the next couple of weeks we are going to give it a try and of course there will be posts to follow after that no doubt! All in all, things are transitioning nicely around the Rother home from stay at home mommy to the busy school year. Of course I will miss my time with Kieran but alas there seems to be no other option at this point and I am thankful to have found such capable and loving care for him in my stead. Happy birthday big boy- we love you very much.

D-Day and sitting up!

c

Yesterday was the day... D-Day... the first day of Daycare for Kieran...

It went a lot better than I had anticipated- thank goodness! The night before I was a wreck... but the next morning I was so busy getting Mr. Man ready and everything out the door I didn't have time to freak out. Rick followed along in the civic for support but left shortly after for a meeting around 8. I stayed till half past nine to nurse him and let him nap on my lap and talk with Sheila- Kieran's sitter and new grandma! It was really nice to have some quiet time to learn a little bit about her life- she seems to be a very kind and loving person and I think an excellent choice for our little man.
I did lose it as I walked out the door to leave- but at least he was smiling and happy. By the time I got to school I was pretty good until someone asked about him and then waterworks again- I've turned into such a girl!
Every time I called both yesterday and today he was either playing or napping- in other words not crying so that was a relief. I was also amazed that he slept at all! Sheila said after his first bottle (which he took like a champ) he was sleepy so she patted and shushed him and he fell asleep without much fuss and slept over an hour in his pack-n-play (first time in that thing!) He took another nap in the pm and was all smiles when I picked him up around 3. Today he took two good naps the first over an hour and second two hours! Who is this child?!
In any case, things are going very well so far and it is such a relief to have found someone who generally seems to enjoy caring for our son- thank you Sheila!
Oh and PS... Kieran is sitting up better and better these days- thanks in part no doubt to Sheila's efforts- way to go big boy!
